THE YEAR OF THE WORKING SHEEPDOG.....For anyone who has still not recovered from the BBC’s appalling taste in dropping One Man and His Dog from the TV schedules, this video will bring much pleasure and interest.
It follows Dave, a farmer on the breathtaking coast of north Devon, and his team of working border collies through a typical shepherd’s year.
The rugged terrain gives an added dimension to the challenge the dogs face, with sheep having to be gathered from the very edge of the land, close to heart stopping drops, in the teeth of an Atlantic gale.
Actor Christopher Timothy, from All Creatures Great and Small, delivers an informative and interesting commentary that introduces us to each member of the sheepdog team - by the end, each is a favourite in his or her own particular way.
We are taken from a winter grazing, through a busy lambing season into midsummer activity, with sheepdog trials at a local agricultural shown thrown in for good measure.
